Who we are
Welcome to the official website of our LinkedIn group, Biodiversity Professionals. Started in 2010 for the UN’s International Year of Biodiversity, the group has more than 30,000 members as of January 2019. It is the largest LinkedIn group for professionals engaged in biodiversity research, conservation, education and outreach.
You’re invited to participate!
The group welcomes anyone who has a professional interest in biodiversity including scientists, educators, students, conservationists, resource managers, policy makers and the media industry.

With 30,000-plus members from all over the world, representing all disciplines and career stages, we are a broad umbrella organization. However, our members share a singular goal: to prevent the loss of biodiversity.
We have some great conversations on LinkedIn, and anyone is welcome to contribute. However,LinkedIn’s format keeps conversations very linear. This means that some ideas don’t get the attention they deserve. Some wonderful thoughts and contributions get lost as they are replaced by newer posts. This website provides a horizontal organization to allow conversations to evolve. As time goes on we believe that we will develop a set of paradigms that can truly make a difference. To get an idea of how this comes together, we are discussing the key issues on our forum.
